KL SHARES OPEN FIRMER IN EARLY TRADE

KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 28 (Bernama) -- Share prices on Bursa Malaysia opened firmer in early trading today on mild buying interest seen in selected bluechips, dealers said. At 9.20 am, the Kuala Lumpur Composite Index (KLCI) increased 4.03 points to 1,071.73, after opening 1.43 points higher at 1,069.08. The Finance Index advanced 51.06 points to 8,527.97, the Industrial Index rose 4.25 points to 2,242.72 and the Plantation Index increased 8.36 points to 5,620.24. Of the FTSE-BM Index series, the FBMEmas gained 25.30 points to 7,157.48, the FBM30 added 34.04 points to 6,898.52, the FBM2BRD increased 0.43 of a point to 5,219.49 and the FBM-MDQ added 0.65 of a point to 4,262.42. Advancers led decliners by 75 to 36 while 78 counters were unchanged, 1,157 untraded and 31 other counters suspended. Volume amounted to 22.848 million shares valued at RM37.410 million. A dealer said investors are expected to remain on the sidelines, ahead of the Budget 2009 announcement tomorrow. "Investors are expecting for better incentives and goodies in the coming budget announcement," he said. Actives, Idaman rose one sen to 9.5 sen, KNM was five sen higher at RM1.69, Resorts World increased four sen to RM2.57 and MRCB was unchanged at 75.5 sen. Among heavyweights, Maybank increased 15 sen to RM7.45, Sime rose five sen to RM6.65, Tenaga was flat at RM7.80 and Telekom was unchanged at RM3.50. -- BERNAMA PJR SM
